5-Day Stand Alone Training
Litchfield, CT
Working with couples can be both extremely challenging and incredibly heart opening. It is a wonder to witness couples step out of deeply engrained protective ways of relating towards new ways of experiencing connection. We view the relationship as a powerful catalyst for personal transformation because our wounding and our gifts are always visible through our interactions.
The Embodied Couples Training will enhance your work with couples by providing you with a unique approach for intervening with the cocreated relational field. We will pay close attention to what’s happening in the body and nervous system when couples interact, through didactic and experiential learning. The goal of our work is to accompany couples on a journey from closed and protected, to open and compassionate. We want you to leave this training feeling more capable of moving through complex dynamics using various interventions AND possessing a deeper trust in your own instincts.
In this training, practitioners will experience the fundamental principles and interventions of Embodied Relationship Work.
This is some of what will be addressed in the teaching:
How to create the optimal level of safety for couples for risk taking!
Exploring WHY and WHAT couples protect; what couples fight for.
Triggers and the nervous system.
Helping couples to understand their typical protections, and gain access to their authentic feelings and needs.
Instructing them in communicating in more conscious ways.
Discerning immature needs from real needs
Using the Full Self Expression process as a map and tool for couples.
What to do with your own nervous system when a session gets messy or stuck.
Helping couples through the stages of conflict.
Brian and Marcia will lead couple’s sessions accompanied by small group practice sessions throughout the week.

Exceptional Relationship Training follows these major premises:
The “Four Es” – Expressive, Embodied, Emotionally Focused and Experiential.
Communication occurs on both a verbal and non-verbal level and couples need to learn to“dialogue” with the whole of their body/mind in order to create emotional resonance.
Conflict engagement is the doorway to deep understanding and growth.
There is a need for couples to incorporate not only mindfulness, but to embody their shared experiences.
The therapist must be willing to take “leaps of faith” to encourage a broader and more flexible range of expression for each partner.
That each couple creates a “shared energy field” from which both problems and breakthroughs will occur.
Couples connect through here and now experiences and not only by talking about their dynamics.
